After a horrible ending to the 2014 season, the Denver Broncos parted ways with John Fox. During the Fox era, many things happened that put a smile on the faces of Bronco fans. The Tim Tebow playoff win, the arrival of Peyton Manning, the 2013 AFC Championship. All good things, and none of it was enough.

As a Bronco fan, I can’t help but look at John Fox like Dan Reeves. Both coaches were very good. Both coaches were very successful during the regular season. Both coaches had all-time great quarterbacks at the head of their teams. Both coaches took two different teams to the Super Bowl. Both coaches failed to get it done.
There is no question that John Fox did less with more.
Dan Reeves was a great coach, but in the end, he was unable to get the Broncos over the hump. Three Super Bowl losses were his demise in Denver. The truth about those teams is they never should have made it to the Super Bowl. John Elway carried those teams. Reeves was able to manage those teams, but was never able to make the necessary moves to get Denver a Super Bowl win.
That is where the difference is. John Fox had the most talented team in the NFL the last three seasons. The Broncos Core Four receivers were the best in the game. The defense was number one this season. There is no question that John Fox did less with more.

Perhaps Fox is getting a bad rap. Nothing is guaranteed in the NFL. However, when the best team in the NFL for three years can not get it done, the right move is to try to find a guy who can get it done. John Fox and Dan Reeves have a lot in common, and hopefully they will also have one more thing in common. They will both be able to say they coached one of the greatest quarterbacks of all time before he went on to win a Super Bowl with another head coach.
