You can feel it in the air.

It’s something this city hasn’t felt since the late 1990s.

It’s something this team hasn’t exuded since 1998.

You just know. It just knows. No matter who. No matter where. No matter when. You just know. It just knows.

This year’s edition of the Denver Broncos is the best chance for the organization to claim that elusive third Lombardi Trophy. Better than two seasons ago. Better than last season.

Whoa, what?

There’s no debate because this is a better “team.” It’s not all dependent upon Peyton Manning. Those two teams that lost to the Baltimore Ravens and Seattle Seahawks couldn’t function unless Manning played perfect football.

That’s no longer the case, and the Broncos have proven it over the last four or five games. Hence why the sky is falling and the Manning narrative that won’t go away. Yet Denver keeps wining games.

The Broncos have the most balanced offense since the Super Bowl-winning teams.

The defense is the best its been here in a long time, and it could get even better in the playoffs. The Broncos defense will want to send a message to the rest of the NFL, and it has even more motivation with the organization honoring the 1977 Super Bowl team.

That means members of one of the greatest defenses in the history of the NFL will be in the house for this game against the Indianapolis Colts. This version’s defense will feed off of that. It will want to be that.

The only thing I wish is that Lyle Alzado could be in that locker room before the game. He would be headbutting guys in their helmets while he’s not. I wish Tom Jackson could be there but he has to work for ESPN. Denver will show a taped message from Jackson at halftime.

  • The point is this is the best “team” the Broncos have put on the field since Manning has been here. The guys on that roster and the coaches know they don’t need Manning to be perfect. They can pick up the slack and still win games. However the games unfold, the team rallies around, makes adjustments and gets the job done.

The running game is not only effective but can take over. The defense can win games. Special teams are solid. (Anymore fake punts from John Fox?)

This season won’t end any other way than with the Broncos holding up that trophy.

It’s what Terrance Knighton has said since last February and throughout the season – to much flack from national media and some in Broncos Country. I love it. It shows what this team hasn’t shown since the late ’90s.

    Confidence.

    They just know.

You can feel it in the air.
