Let the overused storyline begin.

“Peyton Manning will face his former team in the AFC Playoffs.”

“Peyton Mannings vs. Andrew Luck.”

Both were over last season when Manning made his return to Indianapolis to face Luck and the Colts. It turned into beating a dead horse (get it, with the Denver Broncos and Colts?) when Indy came to Denver to start this season.

More from Broncos News

Regardless, the Denver Broncos will host Andrew Luck and the Colts next Sunday at Mile High thanks to their 26-10 AFC Wildcard win over the hapless Cincinnati Bengals.

Yes, Denver won the season-opening game at home 31-24, and it wasn’t that close. But these two teams are completely different today. That was 18 weeks ago. The Broncos and Indianapolis aren’t the same team they were four weeks ago, so what happened in that game in September doesn’t matter.

At least now the speculation is over and Denver knows who it will play in its first playoff game.

The playoffs got off to a great start when the Baltimore Ravens thumped the Pittsburgh Steelers 30-17. That means the Ravens head to Foxborough to face the New England Patriots. Of the three teams that could head to New England, that was the best possible scenario.

Now that the Colts beat Cincy, we know who the Broncos will face to begin their march to a third Lombardi Trophy.

The fact Denver got a bye is huge. And how ironic that the Broncos will face Luck and Indianapolis to open the regular season and the post season?

The bad news is we have to hear Manning faces is old team for the first time in the playoffs.

It should be a great game, that just adds a little spice.

As for Broncos Country and the Broncos, bring on the playoffs.
