5. Special Special Teams
Connor Barth got his own category, but there was something truly special about the Broncos’ special teams in this game. The signature play came after Britton Colquitt’s best punt of the night, when De’Anthony Thomas was lit up by Omar Bolden (who had a phenomenal game) inside the 10 yard line. There was a penalty on the Broncos that the Chiefs accepted and chose to have Denver re-kick the ball. David Bruton took a direct snap and ran for a first down, extending a really long drive that was capped off by a field goal for the Broncos.
While making up for short kickoffs, the coverage team didn’t allow a touchdown to Chiefs returners, which was great but nearly gave people a heart attack every time the ball was kicked. The Broncos also had a nice play on another bad punt by Colquitt, which bounced off of a Chiefs player and into the waiting arms of Omar Bolden.
Isaiah Burse even got into the mix showing some nice moves on one of his better returns of the year, getting tripped up on what might have otherwise been a touchdown.
All in all, it was one of the better or more opportune performances by the Broncos’ special teams.
