C.J. Anderson had his second start of the season after filling in for Ronnie Hillman against the Raiders. He was not given a lot of chances against the Rams last week, but he made up for it in a huge way on Sunday afternoon.
C.J. Anderson ran the ball 27 times for 167 yards and scored a touchdown that gave the Broncos their first lead since Week 10. With the running game a roller coaster ride for the Denver Broncos this season, it was great to see C.J. Anderson answer the call after only having nine carries last week. Watching him run with a purpose was something to watch. It is something that we did not see in Montee Ball this season and Ronnie Hillman had given the running game some light before he was injured. In two of his last three games, C.J. Anderson has gone for 163 total yards (at Oakland) and 195 total yards. (vs Miami)
I’m not sure what happened from last week to last night, but it is clear that something has changed with the running game and the offensive line. C.J. Anderson gave the running game new life. Not only can he run in between the tackles, but he can catch the ball and contribute to the passing game as well. He has become quite the hybrid running back.
I would be completely shocked if he does not start the rest of the season, especially when Montee Ball and Ronnie Hillman return from injury. When Ball came back from his injury, C.J. Anderson continued to start. With his last three games (I will not count the Rams game since he only had nine carries) he has more than proven himself that he can become the running back that Adam Gase and John Fox can rely upon. The Broncos sure do know where to find talent.
Next up for C.J. Anderson is the Kansas City Chiefs, who rank 26th in run defense. On paper, it looks like C.J. Anderson will have another huge game. But that is why they play the game. But for now, have a day C.J. Anderson. You’re career day was something great to watch.
