C.J. Anderson surprised quite a few people during Sunday’s win against the Oakland Raiders. He finished with a combine 163 total yards and a touchdown reception that started the blowout win. His performance should warrant him a shot at starting.
With Ronnie Hillman out for a period of time, the Broncos should hand the reigns over to C.J. Anderson while he recovers. Now I know that Montee Ball will be probable for the game and should play, the Broncos would be wise to at least see what C.J. Anderson can do with the running game. Seeing him during the game reminded me of what Knowshon Moreno did for the Broncos last year. Running the ball effectively and even catching some passes from Peyton Manning. He can truly become a running back that the coaches can trust for the time being when called upon.
Montee Ball might be healthy, but he has not earned enough trust to be placed back in the starting role just yet. It is uncharacteristic of me to give the guy huge props to start someone who had one good game, but I only say that he should start because I would like to see what he can do in the offense with more reps. For all we know, he could be a great back while Ronnie Hillman recovers from his injury.
If Montee Ball can prove that he has gotten better, I am all for giving him the reigns to the running game, but I am sure all of Broncos Country would like to see what the undrafted rookie from California University has to offer to the Broncos offense. The Broncos running game has been a mess with Montee Ball as the featured back and has started to gain ground when Ronnie Hillman started. Now that we all saw what C.J. Anderson can do on the spot when Ronnie Hillman went down, the question is why not give him a shot? What do the Broncos have to lose?
Let us see what C.J. Anderson has to offer to the Broncos running game.
