Again, who would you rather have: An unreliable kicker or one of the best tight ends in football right now and a guy who will only get better? 

That salary hit taken by Prater played a huge role in this move. The Broncos want to keep both Demaryius and Julius. That cap number for a kicker would prove to be difficult to make that happen. 

With this move, Denver saves $2.94 million against the cap this year and $3.25 million next year. 

The Broncos don’t have to pay him most of the salary since he wasn’t on the opening-season roster because of the suspension. 

All this move costs Denver is a seventh-round draft pick to the New York Giants.
