SEPTEMBER 4th, 1983

With Coach Reeves heading into his third season at the helm of the Broncos, he was able to make an off-season trade for some little-known quarterback named John Elway. Although Denver beat the once dynastic Pittsburgh Steelers in Three Rivers Stadium, 14-10, it was a debut to forget for the man who would become one of the greatest QBs the game has ever seen. How forgettable? How does 1-8 for 14 yards, 1 INT, and trying to call signals under the posterior of the left guard, Keith Bishop grab ya? It was, however, valuable on-the-job lessons for The Duke. The win was one of nine on the season, which was good enough to qualify them for the post season as a wild card.
