SEPTEMBER 7th, 1998

Coming off one of the biggest upsets in Super Bowl history, a 31-24 victory over the defending champion Green Bay Packers, the Broncos began the defense of its world championship with a 27-21 victory over the New England Patriots (Pre-hoodie era). It was the first of 13 straight victories to start the season. As we all know, Terrell Davis rushed for 2008 yards in 1998. However, in the 1998 season opener, he only rushed for 75 yards on 22 carries. The most important statistic for T.D. on the day, though, was hitting pay dirt twice. While the undefeated season was squelched in New Jersey against the Giants, the Broncos finished 14-2 and became only the 4th different franchise to win back-to-back championships.
