The big surprise here is the omission of Steven Johnson and addition of Shaq Barrett. Barrett proved over the course of the preseason to be a beast, and he played a variety of positions. I just don’t see how he’d make it to the practice squad at this point. The Broncos signed him as a UDFA out of Colorado State and I think they unearthed a real gem.

To be honest, another tough call here was Corey Nelson, who also showed really nice defensive value this preseason. He’s a work in progress, and an ideal practice squad candidate, but he was always flying around the football.
