The Denver Broncos have placed defensive end John Youboty on the waived/injured list. Youboty was reportedly hurt at the Broncos’ rookie mini-camp over the weekend where he suffered a serious Achilles injury.

Youboty was an undrafted free agent out of Temple in 2013, and spent the entire offseason and regular/postseason on the Broncos’ practice squad.

With some of the additions made to Denver’s defensive line, Youboty was likely competing for either the last DE spot on the 53-man roster or one of the eight practice squad spots. This injury, while a major setback, will allow Youboty another season in the Broncos’ system and a chance to compete again for a roster spot in 2015.

If Youboty lands on the Broncos’ injured reserve list, it could turn out to be a blessing in disguise. You hate to see players go down, but this injury will allow him potentially to train with the team for another entire season, and could earn him a shot at some playing time next year.
