The Denver post did a fantastic piece on the work ethic and habits of Colorado State center Weston Richburg, who is also reportedly “under consideration” for the Broncos’ first round pick.
I think a lot of people are going to be surprised to see Richburg talked about as a first rounder, but I have an increasing inkling that he is for sure going to be among the top 32 selections in the draft.
This is a smart, physical, hard-working interior lineman who is the best at his position in this year’s crop of players. Anytime you have that combination–coupled with the fact that he has been durable throughout his career and played in a ton of games–you’re going to get that kind of hype.
I could see Richburg going as high as 21st overall to the Green Bay Packers, and he certainly won’t be there when the Broncos pick in the 2nd round at 63rd overall.
If the Broncos want to snag Richburg, they’ll have to take him with their first round pick or trade into the early portion of the second round in order to secure his services.
In the article at the Denver Post, Richburg talked about what playing with a legend like Peyton Manning would be like.
“Just thinking about that, that would be a heck of an opportunity to play with the best quarterback in the history of the NFL,” Richburg said. “It would be very difficult because his expectations are so high. He’s very knowledgeable. I think it would be like snapping to your head coach. If you don’t do something right, I’m sure he gets after the guys. But for development as a young guy, it would be such an opportunity.”
