The Broncos are going to be active on the free agent market, and with teams allowed to speak to player representatives, the rumor mill is starting to get hot.

One report from the Charlotte Observer says that the Broncos are one of a few teams to express interest in free agent safety Mike Mitchell, a former Raiders draft pick who broke out this past season with the Carolina Panthers.

Mitchell enjoyed, as I stated a breakout season this year with the Panthers, racking up 66 tackles, four interceptions, 3.5 sacks, and a pair of forced fumbles. Mitchell was drafted very high in 2009, shocking even guys like Mel Kiper Jr. at the time.

The Raiders picked him based on athletic ability and potential, something he didn’t realize until the 5th year of his NFL career. He’s drawing heavy interest on the free agent market right now at just 26 years of age, and the Broncos are seeing if he might be a guy who fits their future plans at the position.
