Peyton Manning Ribs Eric Decker For Hitting the Deck

The jokes rolled in on Twitter, on TV, and on couches across the country.

“Did a field shark get him?”

“And the tackle is made by the 45-yard line.”

“Those pink shoelaces must be longer than his white ones.”

Untouched, wide receiver Eric Decker hit the deck in the first half of the Denver Broncos win over the San Diego Chargers Monday night after a beautiful 55-yard reception. A touchdown was in sight and the third year wide receiver got a little too excited about gliding into the end zone that he tripped himself up.

At the time, it wasn’t funny considering the Broncos were down 10-0, and the play allowed Chargers’ defensive back Quentin Jammer an extra play to intercept Peyton Manning and run it in for the score to make it 17-0 mid-way through the second quarter.

Because the Broncos walked away with a huge come from behind victory and Decker added a touchdown in the win, however, Manning felt like he could give Decker some grief about the gaffe.

“Peyton gave him a lot of grief on the plane ride back,” cornerback Chris Harris said. “He gets on the plane phone, he goes, ‘Let me give a shout out to Eric Decker for getting sniped out by the sniper’ and then he plays the song, ‘Another One Bites the Dust.'”

John Fox refused to comment on the antics on the plane ride back to Denver, other than saying it was a lively flight, but I’m sure there was a lot more to go along with Harris’s story.
