Broncos Offer Manning $90 Million Over 5 Years
By Editorial Staff
It’s Friday, but that doesn’t mean that the Broncos could take it easy in their pursuit of Peyton Manning. Before we get to the fun stuff, let’s fill you in on the details of the day.
John Elway, John Fox, Brian Xanders, and the Broncos medical staff flew to North Carolina early Friday morning to watch Manning throw at Duke University, which is where the highly sought after quarterback has been rehabbing his surgically repaired neck.
Reports circulated that Manning did not throw for the Broncos. However, that is not true.
"We enjoyed visiting with Peyton today in N.C. He threw the ball great and looked very comfortable out there. Watching him throw today was the next step in this important process for our team and Peyton. It was a productive visit and went well. – John Elway (Twitter)"
The Broncos simply wanted to see Manning throw with their own eyes and have their own medical staff clear him before they offered him a contract. The Broncos offered him about $90 million over 5 years.
In other news today, the San Francisco 49ers revealed that they are still very interested in Manning. In fact, the 49ers reportedly already saw Manning throw and cleared him medically earlier in the week. The team has yet to sign free agent QB Alex Smith as well.
That means the Broncos, 49ers, and Titans are the three top dogs in the Manning race.
Oddly enough, one of Denver’s biggest supporters in landing Manning is Chargers QB Philip Rivers.
"“It would make it that much tougher to win the West,” Rivers said on San Diego’s XX 1090 radio, via the Denver Post. “All the sudden, at least from a media’s perspective, it would become a division that’s not lost in the shuffle like it’s been in years past. I kind of hope that that’s the case just because it’s always fun to play a Peyton Manning-led football team. To play him twice a year that would be a battle like crazy to win the division. I hope it happens. One thing you know about him, he’s going to be thorough and make the best decision for him that gives him the best chance to go win. And if that ends up being Denver then it will be exciting.” – Pro Football Talk"
