Cutler Chronicles: Pat Bowlen = Al Davis?

I’m sick of reading about it, thinking about it, and discussing it. I just wish this Old West style standoff would end. Josh McDaniels and Jay Cutler were supposed to have a one-on-one phone conversation last night. As far as we know, it never happened. Messages were exchanged, but the much needed dialogue never took place. The closest McD and Cutler came to each other was when McD held up a retro Broncos jersey with Cutler’s name and number on it at the owners meeting. With his big smile, the whole thing was just plain ironic.

Nothing is going to work until the two parties talk to eachother. One “Jay Cutler WILL BE our quarterback” from McD instead of “Jay Cutler IS our quarterback” may go a long way with his QB and with fans. No shit, McD. He is our QB. He’s under contract! Stop being so politically correct with the media, and get real. It’s time to reassure us fans as well as your QB that he is wanted. It’s time to clean up the mess that you created even before the season started.

I think owner Pat Bowlen needs to step in here. Bowlen has acknowledged that the Broncos won two Super Bowls in the late 90’s because he kept his star quarterback (John Elway) and got rid of head coach, Dan Reeves. Reeves brought the Broncos to the Super Bowl three times in four years, but never won it while he was head coach. Bowlen stuck with Elway, hired Shanahan, and it paid off. You would think that people would learn from their successes and do the same thing in the future. Pat Bowlen needs to step in and stick with Cutler. If he doesn’t, I’m going to start seeing signs around Denver saying, “Pat Bowlen = Al Davis!”
