The newest member of the Denver Broncos is 5’10” and 160 lbs. He may not be running for TDs or sacking Philip Rivers next season, but he will be guiding the guys who will. Josh McDaniels held a press conference at 5 p.m. this evening at Dove Valley. Here’s a link to the live blog. As expected, McDaniels acts older than he looks. Hopefully, he’s wiser than he looks as well. Funny how a few grey strands can ease the heart of fans.
A few people have commented on this being another Lane Kiffin situation. Don’t knock the guy for his age. Just pour him a beer after you ask for his ID. I’m actually more concerned about his credentials. He may have studied under Bill Belichick, but he’s only been coaching in the NFL for 8 years (none as head coach). He may have coached Tom Brady when he threw 50 TDs in a season, but the Broncos offense isn’t the unit that needs the major overhaul. He may have turned Matt Cassell into a very good QB, but will he switch a 4-3 defense into a 3-4 defense? How will his off season moves pan out? There are many questions that can be asked about this baby-faced prodigy, but they won’t be put to bed for at least another nine months. During this gestation period, the team will grow, mature, and look to a coach who will need to do the same thing.
