(Greg M. Cooper-US PRESSWIRE)

It’s no coincidence that the top four teams in turnover differential are 4-1 or better (Atlanta Falcons, New England Patriots, Chicago Bears, and the Houston Texans). The Denver Broncos are 29th in turnover margin at -6 and sit with a 2-3 record after five weeks.

The Broncos have only taken the ball away four times (2 fumbles, 2 interceptions).

“Something that’s said at the beginning of every season, if you catch all the one’s you get your hands on, you’ll lead the league in interceptions, and we’ve not scratched the surface of that yet,” head coach John Fox said. “It’s something I can promise you we’ll get better and it’ll get addressed. In time hopefully we get it.”

The Broncos have 22 pass deflections so the opportunity is there. The opportunity is also there if the Broncos don’t give the ball up.

“As far as the other side of the ball, we’ve had an issue with fumbles,” Fox said. “We lead the NFL in fumbles with seven, and it’s not one guy.”

The Broncos fumbled three times in their 31-21 loss to the Patriots. Demaryius Thomas fumbled for the second time in two weeks after making a big reception. Peyton Manning had the ball punched out of his hands as did Willis McGahee with the clock winding down and the Broncos trying to overcome the long odds.

No game is mistake-free, but the winning teams are limiting the major mistakes. If the Broncos do the same, they’ll be right there with them.

That’s a major concern for the Broncos who are ranked 30th in turnover differential (-6).
