How many times do owners well up when releasing a coach? How many owners dedicated Super Bowls won by the team to a player, shifting the focus away from himself? It is difficult to think of any owners beyond Bowlen who are that dedicated to a team.

]]> In a press conference following the hiring of current head coach Hue Jackson, Oakland Raiders owner Al Davis spent time discussing the fines he levied against former coach Tom Cable as well as other issues he had. It was eerily reminiscent of Davis’ press conference when he hired Cable after the release of Lane Kiffin, where David took the opportunity to openly air out his issues with Kiffin, focusing on the past instead of the future.

Could any Broncos fan see owner Pat Bowlen doing this? My guess is no.

It’s official. The Cable show is over in Oakland. Tom Cable was told that he won’t be returning next year as the head coach of the Raiders. The team finished 8-8 - their best record in seven years – and went 6-0 in division play. That’s a much improved mark from their 5-11 finish last year. 

“The Raiders express gratitude to Tom Cable for his contributions in his four seasons as an assistant and as head coach of the Silver and Black,” the team said in a statement. – ESPN 

If any coach was to go in the AFC West, I assumed that it would be Norv Turner after the Chargers started the season 2-5 and didn’t really come close to passing the Chiefs for a playoff spot. 

Now, the Broncos and Raiders will be battling it out in finding the right coach for their respective teams. Make sure to follow Predominantly Orange on Facebook.

]]> It’s that time of year again. The Broncos slip into a Black Hole, the Black Hole, for a weekend. Talk about receiving a lump of coal before Christmas. The memory of the 45-point home loss has faded a bit, but the hurt from the 3-10 season has not. The Broncos are a fragile group right now, and heading to Oakland is like putting a wounded dear near a busy freeway. The Raiders are on the fringe of officially being ruled out of the playoffs, but a win this week and a loss by the Chiefs and the Chargers will set them up for one last swing on a full count. This is no easy task, but the Broncos do have a chance for redemption. My Prediction: Raiders 28 Broncos 20
