From what Josh McDaniels says, he tried to bring in players that are able to work together and aren’t “cancers” to a team. While Mike Shanahan was not great at doing that (i.e. Travis Henry, Maurice Clarett, Todd Sauerbrun), McDaniels believes that this plan of attack is going to translate to success on the field. I trust his judgment when it comes to this issue because he learned from Bill Belichick. If there is one no nonsense, hoodie wearing guy in the league that is a good judge of character, it’s him. He took Randy Moss and exposed his personality as a very respectable/well mannered receiver. His style is well respected around the league, and the great thing is that he was McD’s mentor. Like Belichick often does, McD met personally and/or brought in draft prospects for a personal workout. Statistics are great as are coaches’ recommendations and scouting reports, but they mean nothing until you get a feel for a player’s attitude and commitment to the team and to the game. That’s what made players like Rod Smith and Terrell Davis so great.

I’m thrilled that McD has carried the Patriots’ style of coaching over to Denver. I hope he demands perfection from his players, runs up the score whenever possible, and seeks revenge on all enemies. That’s Belichick’s bread and butter out east and that could be McD’s out west.

The Broncos organization is getting ready for the big event. They’ve been cleaning the house over the summer by releasing people such as Todd Sauerbrun, Javon Walker and Travis Henry. They’ve gotten rid of perceived “junk” that had been in storage such as Mike Bell. They also packed away the “good china” in players such as Ian Gold and Jason Elam. Then they brought in the new goods. Ryan Clady and Eddie Royal are already inserted into the starting lineup. Ryan Torain could play a key roll in the running attack depending on how he performs in camp. Other preparations include signing veteran free agents (Darrell Jakson, Dewayne Robertson, Samie Parker, Michael Pittman, etc.) that could make all the difference this season.

Factor in a healthy QB, motivated RB Selvin Young, and Brandon Marshall waiting to put a huge stamp on the NFL, and you have all the makings of a successful party. I mean season.  

- Oldie but goodie, John Lynch, is ready to compete for a starting job on defense (Denver Post). Hmmm, Brett Favre could learn something from him. 

- Dad thinks that Boss Bailey will play harder now that he’s playing alongside brother Champ. Boss agrees with pops (Denver Post). Let’s hope that’s the case when he goes up against Tony Gonzalez and Antonio Gates.

- With Jason Elam and Todd Sauerbrun gone, the Broncos look to a new group of young kickers (Yahoo Sports). There is no doubt that an important field goal will be missed this season, and we will wonder if Elam would have made it. My guess is that he would have, but let’s see what the new guys can do.

- I like to give the stagehand credit. The guy behind the curtains making everything run smoothly. That’s why you should take a look at the bio of long snapper, Mike Leach (Bronco Talk).

- According to ESPN, Elvis Dumervil will be one of four players to bust out in 08′ (ESPN The Magazine).
