Tim Tebow is now a member of the New England Patriots.

  And the world is a better place for it.

  Here’s how it all went down, according to a sometimes-reliable source:

  Josh McDaniels – yes, that Josh McDaniels – tapped on the office door of his mentor, idol and boss, Bill Belichick.

  “Who is it and what do you want?” boomed the head coach of the Patriots.

  “Coach, it’s Little Josh,” came the squeaky reply, “the kid who calls all the plays for you. I have a great idea I think you’ll want to hear.”

  “Come in and make it quick,” the great and gruff Belichick thundered.

  Little Josh meekly approached the Oz-like figure behind a large mahogany desk that was covered with an inch-thick marble slab. It was obvious from the empty Mountain Dew cans that cluttered the floor and the overworked Mr. Coffee in the corner that the head coach had been working overtime trying to conjure up yet another way to gain another edge on the rest of his National Football League foes.

  “Coach, remember when I was coach of that team in Denver? I actually got to pick my own team,” Little Josh said. “Well, there was this kid who always seemed to win games and I wanted him because I thought he could become a really good player. I picked him and he actually turned out to be OK for a while.”

  “Are you talking about that Christian kid from Florida, that left-handed lummox who couldn’t complete a pass from me to you?”

  “That’s him, Timmy Tebow!” replied Little Josh.

  The great gruff one took a final sip of caffeine, cast a quizzical eye on his young charge and said, “Why in the world would we want him? We are a team built for precision; my Patriots are perfection personified. That’s what I have created.  And you want me to give him a chance? Give me a reason. And it better be good.”

  Little Josh had come prepared.

  “I don’t have one good reason. I have three,” he said, gaining confidence as he went.

  “First, every media outlet in the English-speaking world will want a piece of Timmy. The Patriots will be the talk of the sports world for months. It will be great PR.

  “Second, he will make other teams prepare for him, waste precious practice time working on defending the option attack that we have absolutely no plan of using. They will be preparing for Tebow and we will give them Brady.

  “Finally, and this is huge, while everyone is writing stories about Timmy, no one will be able to deal with what really matters – our lack of receivers, our weak defense, the loss of Wes Welker to that team in Denver, our possible regression, maybe even demise.”

  With that, Little Josh smiled and looked for reaction.

  Belichick smiled.

  Little Josh blinked. Had the great and gruff one bought into it?

  “You’ve got your wish, but only to a point,” Belichick said. “We bring him in and let him do his thing through the summer. We let him practice at quarterback. Then, after he fails, we do what should have been done a long time ago: We turn him into a tight end. You can never have enough tight ends.”

  Little Josh smiled.

  The great and gruff one headed back to the Mr. Coffee machine for another jolt.

CAN’T GET ENOUGH TEBOW?

   Tebow’s signing has created yet another cottage industry: Tebow proposition bets. You, too, can now make money off Timmy.  Bovada.lv web site released a number of Tebow-related prop bets immediately after his signing early this week.

  Will Tim Tebow make the Patriots 53-man Week 1 roster?

  Yes:  -400 (bet $400 to win $100);  No:  +250 (bet $100 to win $250).

  Will Tebow start a game as a QB for the Patriots in the 2013 regular season?

  Yes:  +600 (bet $100 to win $600);  No:  -1,200 (bet $1,200 to win $100)

  Will Tim Tebow throw a TD pass in the 2013 regular season?

  Yes:  +200 (bet $100 to win $200);  No:  -300 (bet $300 to win $100).

  Will Tim Tebow attempt a pass in the 2013 regular season?

  Yes:  -300 (bet $300 to win $100); No:  +200 (bet $100 to win $200)

  And, yes, even an over/under bet: Tebow’s total rushing and receiving TD’s in the regular season will be over or under 1.5 (bet the amount you want).

On Monday, the news broke that the New England Patriots inked former Denver Broncos’ QB, Tim Tebow to a contract. Those who are anti-Tebow will probably tell you that this is a good thing for the Broncos. They will tell you, “Circus is coming to Foxboro”. They will tell you that there is a QB controversy in New England. These are all ideas that lead many to believe that the road to the Super Bowl just got easier for Denver. I am going to to debunk these arguments.

The “Circus is coming to Foxboro”: No it is not!!! Remember who runs the show in Patriots Nation; Bill Belichick. This is the guy who has brought in the likes of Corey Dillon, Randy Moss, Chad (Ochocinco) Johnson, and Albert Haynesworth; all of which had checkered pasts with their previous teams. Dillon and Moss flourished, Johnson and Haynesworth floundered. However what none of them did was rock the boat. The gauntlet is thrown down with any player who is signed by Belichick that this is a professional organization whereby the team comes before any agendas. That said, I guarantee that before signing on the dotted line, Tebow was informed that he will not have any of his individual pressers; pregame, postgame, or at any point on company time. Also, this is not a platform for any agendas outside of Patriots football.

QB Controversy: Are you serious?!?!?! This is not Tebow v Mark Sanchez; a much more believable, legitimate controversy. There is only one guy taking snaps and throwing passes for the Patriots. That guy is Tom Brady. Yes, the future Hall-of-Famer, Tom Brady. Thus, just like the previous paragraph about checking the circus at the door, you can check the QB controversy at the door as well. Now I’m sure that some person in the media trying to make a name for himself/herself or get some attention might try to manufacture a controversy. However we know the only way Timmy becomes the starter in NE is a serious injury to Brady.

I am of the belief that the signing of Tebow is mainly an insurance policy at the TE position. Rob Gronkowski has been injury-plagued the past two seasons and his pending back surgery rehabilitation leaves the Pro-Bowl TE uncertain about when, or if he will take the field in 2013. Gronk has also dealt with a broken arm that he tried to play through in the 2012 playoffs, only injured himself further. Additionally, Aaron Hernandez has also had his own injury issues over the past couple of years.

A good thing for the Broncos?: In the words of Lee Corso, “NOT SO FAST, MY FRIENDS!” In the interest of full disclosure, I am a Tebow fan but not a Tebow sycophant. I have said to anybody who would listen to me that I think he is a great football player, but not a good QB. Now he has the chance to make or break my argument. His intangibles are well documented: tireless worker, good attitude, desire, and all he does is win. Add two more to that list. He is going to be heaven-bent to prove that he can play at this level, proving his detractors wrong. Also, he has a strong loyalty to the man who drafted him in the first round out of Florida in the 2010 NFL Draft, Josh McDaniels. In case you have been living under a rock, McDaniels is the offensive coordinator for New England. Belichick trusts McDaniels and McDaniels believes in Tebow. He will hone Tim’s route-running skills. Once he is in the open field, we cannot deny his ability to make would-be tacklers miss.

Finally, once healthy, Gronkoswki bolsters Brady’s arsenal of weapons joining Hernandez, Danny Amendola, Stephen Ridley, Shane Vereen, and Tim Tebow. These talented players running McDaniels’ game plan should pose a problem for opposing defenses.

I still believe that the AFC’s road the Super Bowl XLVIII runs through Denver but New England has just created one more speed bump.

Here we go again.

ESPN has reported that the New England Patriots will sign ex-Broncos and Jets quarterback Tim Tebow and he will participate in their minicamp this week.

The quarterback who led the Denver Broncos to an AFC West title and the divisional round of the playoffs in 2011 has been out of a job since getting released by the New York Jets in April.

Many thought New York would use Tebow as a wildcat quarterback and short-yardage specialist after attaining him via trade with Denver prior to the 2012 season. After starting quarterback Mark Sanchez struggled and the losses piled up, Tebow fans clamored for him to supplant Sanchez as the starter.

Neither of those things came to fruition however and the Jets season turned into a sideshow.

New York tried to trade Tebow at the start of the offseason before cutting him, but the trade market was nonexistent. That made many believe that Tebow’s days in the NFL were over. Now it looks like there will be at least one more chapter to this story.

A recent report by Yahoo! Sports cited sources who claimed Patriots coach Bill Belichick was one of Tebow’s harshest critics. Either the report was untrue or Belichick had a change of heart.

Regardless, New England can’t possibly misuse Tebow worse than the Jets did during the 2012 season, assuming of course he makes the Patriots final roster.
