Of course all the talk has been about Peyton Manning and Tim Tebow, and rightfully so. They’re two of the biggest names in the sport.

However, the Broncos just lost a guy more versatile than both Manning and Tebow.

FB/LB Spencer Larsen signed on with the New England Patriots Thursday after two seasons with the Broncos. You can bet that Josh McDaniels was a big proponent in that decision.

Larsen played fullback, linebacker, and special teams in Denver showing how great his football IQ is. Last season, Larsen played fullback in about a quarter of the Broncos offensive plays. He averaged 3.1 yards per carry on 14 touches. He also had 9 receptions for 76 yards.

The Patriots signing Larsen is a bit curious considering they haven’t used a fullback in their offense for a few years.

It was an honor to watch such a workhorse in practice and on game days. He will be missed in Denver, and we wish him the best of luck moving forward.

In the wake of Sunday’s Grammy Awards and just prior to NFL free agency, let’s divide the Denver Broncos’ seventeen unrestricted free agents into Grammy-themed teams to better understand their individual value to Broncos.

Team Whitney Houston: If you wrote a song and traveled back in time to any year between 1985 and 1995 with the sole mission of ensuring it turned into a platinum hit, who is the first person you call? Easy. Whitney Houston. Who turned “The Star Spangled Banner” into a stirring sensation? Who could take a Dolly Parton song of any magnitude and do what she did on “I Will Always Love You”?

Fast forward to the present. If your sole mission is to build a championship team, who are the first people you call? Your own unrestricted free agents that are going to be a lockdown, sure thing mega hit. Call them! Get them in <del>the studio</del> Dove Valley now!

The NFL lockout is back on.

This is like a bad relationship that sees a couple agree to move forward as a one day only to break up the next day.

U.S. District Judge Susan Nelson’s ruling to lift the lockout was put on hold just as the 2nd round of the NFL draft got underway.

What a short work week for players as today was the first (and last) day they could workout at team facilities.

As reported by Lindsay Jones of the Denver Post, Spencer Larsen got the dust off the equipment in the weight room as he was the only player to workout. He arrived at the team’s facility at 6:30 am. No wonder he plays on offense and defense.

Robert Ayers met with the coaching staff for a couple of hours. To check out the list of players that showed today, check out Jones’ report.

While it is very discouraging to hear that the lockout is back on, today was just enough for players to get playbooks and check in with the organization.

The resolution to this CBA issue is still a ways away, but this small gap for players to have communicated with the organization may have been just enough to keep their offseason conditioning program on track and their minds on football.
