Both Quinn and Tebow played well in last week’s narrow preseason loss to the Dallas Cowboys, with Kyle Orton believed to be far ahead of both young former first-rounders in the Broncos’ starting quarterback competition. Quinn was recently quoted on his excitement at an opportunity to play with the Broncos’ starters and throw to receivers of Brandon Lloyd‘s caliber.

Tebow’s demotion to third-string status is less a reflection of the regular season depth chart and more about spreading around valuable reps. There is a significant difference between playing in the first half of preseason games–when opposing defenses often keep some projected starters on the field–and playing the fourth quarter when many opposing defenders are still vying for a roster spot.

With all three quarterbacks playing well thus far in the preseason, it will be exciting to see how Quinn handles his opportunity, how Orton delivers against a vastly improved Buffalo defense (anchored by rookie DT Marcel Dareus), and how Tebow continues his development in game situations.
