Let’s take a look at some power rankings. The Denver Broncos dropped across the board with their 31-21 loss to the New England Patriots. Here’s a quick run down.

ESPN:

No. 17 (down 4 spots) – “The Broncos’ defense has to be able to get off the field on third down to allow Peyton Manning to do what he does”. - ESPN

CBS Sports:

No. 17 (down 1 spot) – “Their brutal early schedule has them in a 2-3 hole to start. Can they climb out of it?” – CBS Sports

Yahoo Sports:

No. 11 (down 3 spots) – “It didn’t feel much like a Brady/Manning matchup to the rest of us, but I couldn’t help but wonder if it felt like old times for Peyton Manning as he played lights out, but lapses in concentration by teammates Demaryius Thomas and Willis McGahee submarined him. I’m not saying the Broncos would’ve won without those mistakes, but it would’ve been a much more interesting game.” – Yahoo Sports

Fox Sports:

No. 17 (down 4 spots) – “There isn’t anything wrong with health of QB Peyton Manning. His arm is fine. It wasn’t his lack of arm strength that caused Demaryius Thomas to fumble the ball and it wasn’t his arm strength that forced Willis McGahee to drop a pass in the flat on fourth down.” – Fox Sports

Pro Football Talk is slowly releasing its preseason power rankings prior to training camps beginning.

They put the Denver Broncos at the No. 10 spot. Why so high?

The Denver Broncos won a playoff game in 2011, and in the offseason acquired a future Hall of Fame quarterback. Put two and two together, and they should be on just about everyone’s preseason Super Bowl watch list. – Evan Silva (Pro Football Talk)

Makes sense, right?

At the end of each selection they make, Pro Football Talk puts out a poll accessing readers’ views on the ranking. At press time 3,860 people voted in the poll. Most people (73.11%) believe that PFT’s Broncos ranking is “too high.” A small portion (11.17%) believe that it is”too low.” Only 15.73% of the voters think that it’s “just right.”

As with all of this off season NFL talk, only time will tell.
