A little more than a week after former Broncos cornerback Perrish Cox was acquitted of rape, he’s back in the NFL.

Cox signed with the San Francisco 49ers Tuesday afternoon after missing the entire 2011 season. He started in nine game for the Broncos his rookie year recording 59 tackles, 2 forced fumbles, and 14 pass deflections.  He was cut by the team at the end of training camp after hearing that he would have to stand trial in an alleged rape case.

The 5th round draft pick out of Oklahoma State was considered a first-round talent, but he slipped down the draft board when he was banned from his school’s Pro Day. Cox insists that the off-the-field issues have stopped.

The 49ers also signed Randy Moss to the team. If there’s a coach who knows how to take those red flags and snap them into line, it’s Jim Harbaugh. There’s no room for error for those guys, but lots of room for growth under a team that blossomed to a Championship team last season.

After four hours of deliberation, the jury in the Perrish Cox trial found Cox not guilty on two counts of sexual assault.

The victim was not able to assess her condition which likely helped the jury come to their conclusion. The verdict was read in a Douglas County District court Friday morning.

The victim claimed that she was raped by Cox over Labor Day weekend in 2010.

Cox was released by the Broncos late in training camp in 2011. He started 9 games for the team in 2010, his rookie season.

Former Broncos cornerback Perrish Cox declined to testify in his own defense of two charges of sexual assault Thursday morning in a Denver area court.

Cox faces two years to life in prison for allegedly raping a woman who passed out in his apartment Labor Day weekend 2010. Cox’s lawyer called just one defense witness to the stand, a Lone Tree police detective.

According to DNA tests, the victim was impregnated by Cox.

Broncos wide receiver Demaryius Thomas was also called to testify in the case Wednesday because he was present at the time of the incident.
