The Denver Broncos will be looking to fill the starting right cornerback spot this off season whether it’s through free agency or through the draft.

Tracy Porter is likely out after missing most of the season due to a seizure disorder. Chris Harris is better on the inside in the nickel, and Tony Carter and Omar Boldin need another year to develop.

All arrows point to the Broncos filling their need in free agency. We’ve talked about guys like Antoine Cason, Cary Williams, and Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie, but there’s another high-profile name that we could be adding to add to the list.

Nnamdi Asomugha (24) defends Tampa Bay Buccaneers tight end Dallas Clark (44) during the first half at Raymond James Stadium. (Kim Klement-USA TODAY Sports)

According to Adam Schefter, the Philadelphia Eagles will meet with Nnamdi Asomugha’s representatives Friday morning to see if Asomugha will restructure his contract. If he refuses, then the Eagles plan to cut the 10-year veteran.

Asomugha would then become an unrestricted free agent.

In 2012, Asomugha had 55 tackles, one interception, and 12 passes defended. If Asomugha becomes a free agent, he won’t be able to get the kind of money that he would have been able to get, say, after the 2006 season when he had 8 interceptions.

Asomugha may even take less money if he comes to a team like Denver, where he has a legitimate shot at winning a Super Bowl next year. Not only that, but he would play opposite fellow Pro Bowler Champ Bailey.

Before Asomugha signed his monster contract with the Eagles in 2011, there was talk about Asomugha going to the New York Jets, where he would have played opposite Darrelle Revis.

Bailey said the only situation he could remember that would be similar — with two so-called shutdown corners playing together — was when he was teammates with Deion Sanders in Washington. -Lindsay Jones (Denver Post)

Asomugha re-joining the AFC West isn’t totally out of the question. First though, let’s see if the Eagles put money where Asomugh’s mouth is.

Every week we will take a trip to the opposition’s grounds, and interview the editor of the FanSided blog that covers that team.

This week, I asked Chris Shellcroft of JustBlogBaby.com some questions pertaining to the Oakland Raiders. Chris has covered the Raiders for quite some time, and he’s the go-to expert on all things Raiders. His team team is one we love to hate, but Chris runs a great site over there.

Let’s go Inside the Villain’s Venue with JustBlogBaby.

New head coach Hue Jackson went 0-4 in preseason just like Mike Shanahan did in 1989 as the coach for the L.A. Raiders. Shanahan was let go four games into that season. Do you have high hopes with Jackson as your coach?

Despite the poor timing of Al Davis’ decision to fire Tom Cable I do like Hue Jackson as a head coach. Hopefully Coach Jackson won’t go the way of Shanahan and lose his job only to come back as the new coach of a bitter rival only to own the Raiders. The expectations are as high in Oakland as they’ve been in some time. That being said when your team goes 7 years of piling up losses like Bill Belichick does draft picks and all of a sudden an 8-win season becomes a beam of hope the concern is that expectations are unjustified. Still, had the Raiders played a little better outside of the AFC West – a conference they amazingly owned last season – then we would have seen this team in the playoffs.

Cornerback is one of those positions that largely goes unrecognized until something major happens. Positive or negative, an interception or a 60-yard completion downfield can turn a silent stadium into one that sounds like Times Square on New Years Eve.

That’s why the position garners up some of the highest paid salaries in the league. While a Pro Bowl cornerback doesn’t make a team quite like a Pro Bowl quarterback does, having one outstanding guy in the secondary can help a team tremendously.
