The Ravens and Patriots play today for the right to represent the AFC in the Super Bowl. The Broncos have played these teams four times in the playoffs and have won two of those games. (Photo courtesy www.bizjournals.com)

 

Even though this season is over for the Broncos, an exciting day of football is ahead as four teams are set to battle for the right to represent their conference in Super Bowl XLVI.  As a Bronco fan, I thought it would be interesting to reflect back on the playoff games that the Broncos have participated in with the Ravens and Patriots; the teams that will square off against each other today to see who will be crowned AFC Champion.  Including last week’s 45-10 loss against the Patriots, the Broncos are even at 2-2 in playoff games against Baltimore and New England.

How many times do owners well up when releasing a coach? How many owners dedicated Super Bowls won by the team to a player, shifting the focus away from himself? It is difficult to think of any owners beyond Bowlen who are that dedicated to a team.

]]> In a press conference following the hiring of current head coach Hue Jackson, Oakland Raiders owner Al Davis spent time discussing the fines he levied against former coach Tom Cable as well as other issues he had. It was eerily reminiscent of Davis’ press conference when he hired Cable after the release of Lane Kiffin, where David took the opportunity to openly air out his issues with Kiffin, focusing on the past instead of the future.

Could any Broncos fan see owner Pat Bowlen doing this? My guess is no.

]]> It is almost like being born into royalty. You didn’t have a choice in it, but luck found you anyway. That’s the way the Broncos 5th round pick, Torain Train, must feel. You can’t help but succeed in the Broncos running scheme if your a descent back. The only thing Train must do is stay healthy. The former Arizona State tailback averaged 6.8 yards per carry during his first season in Tempe, but was hampered by injuries his entire collegiate career. He fell in the draft for that reason, but people seem to think that he has first round talent. Mike Shanahan has decided to take a chance on the guy, which is a smart move. Shanahan has taken a chance on many backs including Terrell Davis, Mike Anderson (6th round picks), and Olandis Gary (4th round).
