- The Broncos have been so impressed with their wide receivers lately that they traded backup Keary Colbert to Seattle. Colbert who was acquired in the off-season didn’t catch a pass in the first two Broncos games.

- Cornerback Karl Paymah was sentenced to 6 months of probation and an alcohol treatment program after he was found asleep at the wheel of his SUV in May.

- Credit the offensive line for only allowing one sack this season.

- Mike Shanahan gives the refs an A+.

- A Broncos team that has a season with three consecutive wins has a great shot at making the playoffs.

- Brandon Marshall breaks down the team’s two point conversion and says that he thought they lost the game when Jay Cutler fumbled.

- This question always comes up: Which Broncos’ back should you play in your fantasy league? Selvin Young, Andre Hall, or Michael Pittman? My vote this week is MP. Pittman has taken on a new role, but he’s thriving in the Broncos’ offense.

- Shanahan is the only coach in the NFL that is truly secure in his job. Going for two on Sunday at home proves it. However, even Broncos’ players were shocked by the call.

- Through two games, the 08′ Broncos look a lot like the 07′ Patriots.

Former Kansas City wide receiver, Samie Parker says that coming to Denver is a great change for him. Besides looking forward to bringing his family to the colorful state of Colorado, Parker commented on the team’s wideout competition saying, “We all just want to win, that’s the bottom line. Whether it be you making a play or another guy making a play … I think it’s going to be a great thing because we’re just pushing each other, making plays out there and having a good team camaraderie.”(DenverBroncos.com).

Besides Parker, the Broncos brought in free agent WR’s Keary Colbert, Darrell Jackson, Clifford Russell, Lorne Sam, and Edell Sheperd. They also took Eddie Royal in the second round of the draft.

Rod Smith has not declared a comeback, but he has not mentioned retirement either. He did, however, make an appearance at the team’s summer camp to talk to some of the wide receivers. There’s no doubt that Keary Colbert idolizes him. He commented on Smith saying, “He has had a career that has been remarkable. I’m really trying to put in a career and a season like he has done in the past. That’s the start of it really, getting to know how to do it through him. He has the blueprint, and I just have to follow it.” Forget the comeback, Rod. Join the Broncos as a receivers coach. We know that you love the organization, and would do anything to help the team. Make it official.

A general note: After Travis Henry was cut, look for players to work much harder in summer camps and pre-season because they know that Mike Shanahan will get rid of anyone that does not show up to work. And you can guarantee Shanahan will not show those players out.

It’s clear that most Broncos players like playing in Denver. That’s evident by John Lynch’s decision to re-sign with the team despite a pay cut instead of testing free agency or going into retirement. He initially decided to leave the Broncos, but missed owner, Pat Bowlen’s phone call due to an early bedtime. Lynch slept on his decision and didn’t feel right in the morning, so he told Bowlen that he would be returning for another season.

Other returnees include Ebenezer Ekuban, who missed last season with a torn Achilles tendon. The other big defensive end that has decided to return is John Engelberger. Tight end Nate Jackson will also be suiting up in a Broncos uniform in 2008.

Other free agents that have yet to make a move include clutch kicker Jason Elam (pondering retirement), safety Nick Ferguson, and fullback Cecil Sapp.

The Broncos did exactly what I wanted them to do in releasing Javon Walker. Walker who played well in Denver was injured too often and he didn’t want to play for the Broncos anymore. Why keep him and his big salary around? Denver brought in Keary Colbert to replace Walker. The former Panthers receiver was drafted in 2004 and filled in for an injured Steve Smith catching 5 touchdowns in his rookie season. His performance has dropped with time, and he spent the end of 2007 on the injured reserve list. Colbert will be competing with Brandon Stokley for the #2 spot because Brandon Marshall secured the #1 slot with a solid 2007 season.

Finally, Ian Gold was released due to his declining performance in recent years.

It looks like the Broncos are being conservative in this year’s free agency market, but don’t expect them to do the same in the draft.
