Longtime journeyman Justin Bannan could be on his way to his fifth NFL team. The San Diego Chargers are reportedly interested in 12-year veteran defensive tackle after cutting Antonio Garay and losing Aubrayo Franklin and Vaughn Martin in free agency.

Bannan had 42 tackles and one forced fumble for the Broncos last year. Mike McCoy is very familiar with Bannan from last season and from 2010 when Bannan had 35 tackles, a sack, and a forced fumbles for the Broncos.

Bannan brings experience and durability. In each of his seasons, he’s played in double-digit games. He’s played in all 16 games five times and 15 games three times.

The Chargers are extremely young at the position with their next youngest defensive lineman being 26 year-old Jarius Wynn.

It’s about time the Chargers picked from the Broncos’ pool of former players. The Broncos already swiped Quentin Jammer, Shaun Phillips, and Louis Vasquez from the Chargers.

Nose tackle Justin Bannan spent four seasons with the Baltimore Ravens before coming to the Denver Broncos in 2010. In three of those four seasons, the Ravens made the playoffs.

The Broncos have not won a regular season game in Baltimore, and for good reason, according to Bannan.

“It’s talent, atmosphere,” Bannan said Monday afternoon. “There was a culture created there a long time ago with the defense and we need to—in there you have to bring you’re A-game going into Baltimore or you’re just not going to win. They’ve created that there. That’s why it’s a tough place to play.”

The Bronco who is very familiar with beating the Ravens is Peyton Manning. Manning kicked the Ravens out of the divisional round of the playoffs in 2006, and in 2009.

“I know when I was in Baltimore, we never beat Peyton and the Colts,” Bannan said. “It is nice to have No. 18 with us. We’ve got to win on all fronts this week. We’ve got a lot of work to do. It’s a huge game. Make no mistake about it. Going into Baltimore, it’s not easy for anybody so we’ve got to be ready to go.”

Bannan has 38 tackles and 3 pass breakups in 13 games this season.

Entering his 11th year in the NFL, Denver Broncos’ nose tackle Justin Bannan has seen enough of the Pittsburgh Steelers to know what a threat they are. Bannan spent four seasons with the Baltimore Ravens and had to face the Steelers twice per season.

“At the end of the day, it’s a fist-fight,” Bannan said. “It’s a game that’s won in the trenches I believe.”

Not only does Bannan know the Steelers well, but he also knows Peyton Manning well. When asked which quarterback made him more frustrated as a defender, Ben Roethlisberger or Manning, Bannan went with the answer that we all like to hear.

“They were both frustrating,” Bannan started. “I’d have to say Peyton just because in ’06, we had the first round bye. We thought we had (Steve) McNair, we were going to go to the Super Bowl. Peyton came in, we lost to him, then in ’09 we lost to them in the playoffs.”

Let’s hope Peyton is just as frustrating to the Steelers Sunday night.
