Before the Denver Broncos got going on the turf this week, they had a team golf outing.

“It’s a life sport,” John Fox said. “Some of these guys have never played before. So it’s really a team-building exercise where guys get to spend a little time with a teammate and get to know him better.”

For example, Peyton Manning was paired up with Trindon Holliday and rookies Montee Ball and Vinston Painter.

“I can tell Ball and Painter have been studying their playbooks and not playing much golf, which is a good thing,” Manning joked. “Trindon actually has got a little game—no pun intended (laughing)—so it was fun.”

The outing paired players up that don’t normally see each other or work with each other every day at Dove Valley.

“I’ve never done something like that before as far as having an organized just Broncos [event],” Manning said. “Our video staff was there, our field turf staff was there—so it was really kind of all Broncos football personnel. A lot of laughs and good camaraderie with some guys that you don’t necessarily get to spend a ton of time with. I really enjoyed it.”

The Broncos had a team baseball outing earlier this month when the New York Yankees played the Colorado Rockies. It’s good to see the team bonding off the field as well.

Tebow will be a guest on Feherty Live. The New York Times called David Feherty a cross between Oprah Winfrey and Johnny Carson. Other football great such as Joe Theismann and Steve Mariucci will also be guests on the show.

Tebow is an avid golfer and he even grabbed headlines last summer with this picture of his golf swing.

The 2011 American Century Championship is in the books and, unfortunately, John Elway was unable to earn his 11th top ten finish. Entering the final round with a total of 34 points, Elway added 13 points on Sunday, which tied him with Jerry Rice for 15th place. Jack Wagner, who ended the tournament with a total of 80 points, was able to hold off a strong, third round charge by Tony Romo to win his 2nd American Century Championship.

The -8 points earned by Tim Tebow on Sunday, which was his lowest round of the tournament, brought his score to a total of -15 and gave him sole possession of 67th place. Hopefully Tebow will continue to participate in this tournament so football fans can watch him compete and improve at tournament golf.

Congratulations to Tebow also for being co-runner up in the Korbel Champagne Cellars Long Drive Competition, which was held on July 15, 2011. Tebow, along with NFL quarterback Kyle Boller, ended the competition with a 327-yard drive. As impressive as this statistic was, Green Bay Packer linebacker A.J. Hawk hit a drive that was ten yards longer, giving him his second win over the last three years in this competition.

One of the highlights from Sunday, if not the entire tournament, was courtesy of former Colorado Avalanche hockey player Joe Sakic. Using an 8-iron on the 167 yard par 3 17th hole, Sakic hit a shot right in line with the flag that bounced twice and rolled into the hole for only the fourth hole-in-one during the tournament’s 22-year history. This ace, which was Sakic’s first one, earned him a $1 million dollar bonus that will be split with Lance Armstrong’s Livestrong Foundation for cancer research.
