What do you think, fans? Should the Broncos draft another QB?

Other battered players from the bunch include Selvin Young, Brandon Stokley, Jay Cutler, and Ryan Torain (been out since training camp but could return against Miami). That’s more than half of the team’s offense.

Darrell Hackney will move up from the practice squad to become the #2 QB, and Karl Paymah will replace Champ in the secondary.

Losing Champ could not have come at a worse time for the Broncos. They are officially the worst defense in the NFL. Detroit is second worst and they are 0-6. That tells you just how bad this defense is. They give up 32.5 points per game and they allow opposing QBs to think they’re Joe Montana in Super Bowl XXIV.  

Many people are calling for the head of defensive coordinator Bob Slowik (and even Shanahan), but the Broncos just brought him aboard. It doesn’t help that the team didn’t practice the 3-4 in training camp, yet they’re throwing it in with the 4-3 that they typically use this season. In my opinion, we need to spend the next couple of years acquiring better defensive players in the draft. With the offensive talent already in place and needing time to mature, a new defensive unit could bring the Broncos to the Super Bowl in about two years.

While I was on vacation, there weren’t too many suprising moves made by the Broncos except the release of cornerback Domonique Foxworth and the release of receiver Clifford Russell. The team also sent third string QB Darrell Hackney packing despite a solid preseason game against Arizona. They may end up resigning him to the practice squad. Punter Sam Paulescu was released and the job was given to Brett Kern. 

Injuries

Bad news for rookie tailback Anthony Alridge. He is out for the season with a torn ligament in his foot. That puts a lot more pressure on Selvin Young and Andre Hall as far as the running game is concerned. Fullback Cecil Sapp was recently put on the injured reserved list due to a quadricep injury, and rookie Ryan Torain will not suit up until half way through the season because of recent elbow surgery. 

The Broncos are a beat up bunch, but at least they are not like the Patriots or Colts who have their Pro Bowl QBs Tom Brady and Peyton Manning ailing at the start of the regualr season.

It seems that Broncos alumni are uniting with each other on different teams this season. Foxworth joined Jason Elam in Atlanta while Ashley Lelie joined Javon Walker in Oakland. What’s next? Will John Lynch join forces with Brian Griese in Tampa Bay or will he retire with Jake Plummer in Idaho?

Extra Large In Texas

Take the Wendy’s commercial off the air here in Denver. Guard Montrae Holland will now be cruising through all of  the Wendy’s drive-thrus in Dallas. Holland was traded to the Cowboys for a 5th round pick in the 2010 draft. Holland started all 16 games for the Broncos last year. After failing to report to training camp in shape, he didn’t practice with the team for two weeks because he had to drop the pounds by doing conditioning drills while the rest of his team practiced. Going to the Cowboys only seems natural for Holland considering they have the biggest offensive line in the league. Jerry Jones helps make this statement true: Everything is bigger in Texas.
