For a Christmas Eve game, the Broncos travel to frigid Buffalo. On paper, this seems to be an even matchup if we compare the two teams from last year. Like the Broncos, the Bills went 4-12 in 2010 and have had to basically build from the ground up.

The Bills brought up the rear in most statistics categories. They were ranked 18th in rushing and 24th in passing. Ryan Fitzpatrick threw for 3,000 yards, and had 23 touchdowns and 15 interceptions. His main target was Stevie Johnson. Fred Jackson led the team in rushing with 927 yards and 5 touchdowns on the season. The team was hoping that rookie C.J. Spiller would come in and make an immediate impact in the backfield, but he averaged just 20.2 yards per game.

I still think that the Broncos will take nose tackle Dan Williams with their first pick (11th) in the draft despite acquiring Jamal Williams this off season. However, should they trade up, my philosophy is tossed out the tinted orange window. If they trade Brandon Marshall for a higher pick, then they will probably go with Dez Bryant to fill the short lived vacancy at wide receiver. We all know how I feel about this. Josh McDaniels could even surprise us by selecting C.J. Spiller, making it the second year in a row that the Broncos have used their first draft pick on a running back. The bottom line is that a trade up for a higher pick means that the Broncos are game to acquire a top college athlete at any position. McD is known for having a few tricks up his sleeve both on and off the field, so get the popcorn ready on draft day.

One player that I want to look at today is Rolando McClain. If the Broncos do in fact make the 11th pick their first pick, the inside linebacker could still be on the board. Andra Davis was quickly cut once the season was over, so signing McClain could be a real possibility.

McClain played under Nick Saban’s 3-4 defense at Alabama. He won the Butkus Award last year after a very good performance on the national champions’ team. He had 105 tackles, 14.5 tackles for a loss, and 4 sacks in 2009. He made an impact on the team as a freshman which has many speculating that he could make a name for himself during his rookie year in the NFL.
