No matter what you think of Brady Quinn as an NFL quarterback, the guy is a class act off the field.

While with the Denver Broncos, Quinn was a leader in the locker room and on the practice field. He never complained about not getting a snap in the regular season (What former first round draft pick does that?). He worked hard in practice and did everything in his power to make his teammates better.

There was probably no better guy to have in the Kansas City Chiefs’ locker room over the weekend than Quinn. When Jovan Belcher shot and killed his girlfriend and then himself in front of her mother and his coaches, respectively, it shook the NFL world.

Quinn led the Chiefs to their second win of the season just a day after the shootings, going 19-for-23 for 201 yards and 2 touchdowns. He was named the AFC’s Offensive Player of the Month for his performance on the field, but also for his leadership off of it.

After the game, Quinn said this about the tragedy:

“The one thing people can hopefully try to take away, I guess, is the relationships they have with people,” Quinn told reporters after the game. “I know when it happened, I was sitting and, in my head, thinking what I could have done differently. When you ask someone how they are doing, do you really mean it? When you answer someone back how you are doing, are you really telling the truth?

“We live in a society of social networks, with Twitter pages and Facebook, and that’s fine, but we have contact with our work associates, our family, our friends, and it seems like half the time we are more preoccupied with our phone and other things going on instead of the actual relationships that we have right in front of us. Hopefully, people can learn from this and try to actually help if someone is battling something deeper on the inside than what they are revealing on a day-to-day basis.” – Brady Quinn (Pro Football Talk)

Perhaps if circumstances in Denver were different, former Broncos quarterback Brady Quinn would have played in a regular season game during his two years with the team. Instead, he was forced to battle it out with Kyle Orton and fan favorite Tim Tebow before riding the pine for two long NFL seasons.

Quinn went to the Kansas City Chief in the off season and could have the chance to play if Matt Cassel gets hurt. He will at least get more reps there than he did in Denver.

Quinn still has he believers and one of them is none other than his former college coach, Charlie Weis.

“Brady could have been a starting quarterback for me in the NFL,” Weis says.

“Go back and look at those numbers for the two years he played for me,” Weis said. “He was great. He wasn’t good. And I know if I had him as a quarterback, I would have felt very comfortable that I could have won no matter where we were.” -Charlie Weis (Kansas City Star)

I personally hope that Quinn does get a chance again. He was nothing but professional during a rough time in Denver. The last season that Quinn played (2009), he passed for 1,339 yards (67.2% completion rate), 8 touchdowns, and 7 interceptions in 10 games.

Oh, the dog days of summer are here. NFL training camps are still five weeks, so any splat of NFL news that hits the wires often explodes onto the scene, especially if it has to do with one of the league’s major stars.

It came out today that former Broncos QB Tim Tebow spoke out about former teammate and current backup QB for the Chiefs, Brady Quinn. Tebow said,

“I had a teammate at Denver who played the same position as me and he went to the University of Notre Dame. He would brag about his university, how great it was. Most of us in the locker room were like, ‘C’mon, we all had opportunities. We chose not to go there.’ … But he talked so much about his university that it became easy. I’d say, ‘Your whole team had one guy who ran under a 5.0 40 [yard dash]. Our kicker ran under 5.0.’” – Tim Tebow

This was published in Gator Zone on Monday, but by Tuesday morning, the story had been taken down.

Tebow’s group surely had something to do with this. The QB was just being real, but his statement apparently caused some heads to turn a little too much.
