As the Denver Broncos are trying to find the right balance of youth and experience in the their secondary, it’s being reported that the team tried to acquire Philadelphia Eagles cornerback Asante Samuel.

The Broncos put forth two proposals, one that involved a late-round draft pick and one that involved a player.

Denver released aging cornerback Andre Goodman in hopes of making room for some younger guys. Samuels is not that much younger at 31 years old, but he’s still got some good years ahead of him. His best season came in ’06-’07 with the New England Patriots when he had 10 interceptions and 65 tackles. Last year he had 3 interceptions and 34 tackles.

Simply by playing opposite Champ Bailey, Samuels would have had more chances for picks. The Broncos also signed Tracy Porter to a $4 million deal so it’s a little surprising that they were going after Samuels.

It’s a shame that this deal has reportedly fallen through.
