When looking at Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Andy Dalton’s stats you see that he’s thrown 13 touchdowns and 10 interceptions through 7 games. Behind Tony Romo (13 INTs), Dalton is tied for second with Brandon Weeden and Matt Cassel for the most interceptions in the league.

“His interceptions haven’t necessarily been actually a product of Andy,” Bengals head coach Marvin Lewis said. “A couple of them have, but he’s not forced the ball into coverage, and we don’t want him to change that. We want him to keep doing what he’s doing. He had three in one game, and not one of them was really his interception.”

The 2011 2nd round draft pick out of TCU brought his team to the playoffs with a 9-7 record, but lost to the Houston Texans in the wild card round. The team went 4-12 the year before.

Last season, Dalton threw 20 touchdowns and 13 interceptions in the regular season.

“Even though they’re up, we have to keep him playing within himself and don’t panic,” Lewis said of Dalton’s interceptions.

Dalton has been sacked 17 times already this season. With pressure up front, the Broncos can force him into more turnovers.

Against the Broncos last September, Dalton went 27-for-41 for 332 yards and 2 touchdowns. He also didn’t have to contend with the secondary that the Broncos have this go around. Champ Bailey was inactive last year, Chris Harris was still a young undrafted, unproven cornerback, and the team didn’t have Tracy Porter.

As Lewis wants to keep his confidence up, Dalton could be in for a rude awakening this time around.

Now that the Denver Broncos schedule has been released, we are going to take a game-by-game look at the regular season that the Broncos have in front of them.

The Denver Broncos travel to Cincinnati to take on an improving Bengals team. The Bengals finished 9-7 in 2011 and they lost to the Houston Texans in the wildcard round of the playoffs.

The last time the Broncos and Bengals met was in week two of last season in Denver. The Broncos won 24-22, making that Kyle Orton’s last win as the starter in Denver. Andy Dalton threw for 332 yards and 2 touchdowns while Eric Decker had 5 catches for 113 yards and 2 touchdowns.

The Bengals were middle of the road offensively last season. They were 18th on offense, 19th in rushing, and 20th in passing.

It was their defense that did more damage limiting opponents to 20.2 points per game (9th in the league). They were 10th in rush defense and 9th in pass defense. They were also 5th in sacks and 7th in forced fumbles.

The Bengals offseason was highlighted by the addition of former Patriots tailback BenJarvus Green-Ellis. Ellis combined for 1,675 yards and 24 touchdowns in his last two seasons. The team also acquired former Cowboys corner Terrence Newman who had his best season in 2010 when he had 5 interceptions and 79 tackles. The Bengals signed Jamaal Anderson and former Bronco Derrick Harvey as well.

Early Prediction: Broncos – 27 Bengals – 17. The Bengals are an improving team, but Dalton can’t out-gun Manning.

Chargers Leaders in 2011:

Andy Dalton – 300-for-516 (58.1%), 3,398 passing yards, 20 TDs, 13 INTs

Cedric Benson – 1,067 yards (71.1 per game), 6 TDs, 5 fumbles

A.J. Green – 65 receptions, 1,057 yards, 7 TDs, 1 fumbles

Thomas Howard – 99 tackles

Reggie Nelson – 4 INTs

Geno Atkins – 7.5 sacks

It’s extremely difficult for a rookie to come in and immediately be successful in the NFL.

Von Miller defied the odds and proved his worth as the No. 2 overall pick in the 2011 draft.

Miller was 10th in the league in sacks with 11.5 on the season (one spot ahead of Julius Peppers), he had 64 tackles, and 2 forced fumbles. He started in 15 games for the Broncos despite having surgery on his right thumb, and dealing with a giant cast on his hand.

Fan voting for rookie of the year is going on right now at NFL.com. Other rookies vying for the title are Andy Dalton (3,398 yards, 20 TDs), Cam Newton (21 pass TDs, 14 rush TDs), Patrick Peterson (4 punt return TDs), and Aldon Smith (14 sacks).

Voting ends at 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, so go here and select the NFL’s rookie of the year.
