Sorry for the lack in posts lately, but I was out of town on business. Consider it my bye week for the off season. I want to pick up where I left off, and that’s with the draft.

I still think that the Broncos will take nose tackle Dan Williams with their first pick (11th) in the draft despite acquiring Jamal Williams this off season. However, should they trade up, my philosophy is tossed out the tinted orange window. If they trade Brandon Marshall for a higher pick, then they will probably go with Dez Bryant to fill the short lived vacancy at wide receiver. We all know how I feel about this. Josh McDaniels could even surprise us by selecting C.J. Spiller, making it the second year in a row that the Broncos have used their first draft pick on a running back. The bottom line is that a trade up for a higher pick means that the Broncos are game to acquire a top college athlete at any position. McD is known for having a few tricks up his sleeve both on and off the field, so get the popcorn ready on draft day.

One player that I want to look at today is Rolando McClain. If the Broncos do in fact make the 11th pick their first pick, the inside linebacker could still be on the board. Andra Davis was quickly cut once the season was over, so signing McClain could be a real possibility.

McClain played under Nick Saban’s 3-4 defense at Alabama. He won the Butkus Award last year after a very good performance on the national champions’ team. He had 105 tackles, 14.5 tackles for a loss, and 4 sacks in 2009. He made an impact on the team as a freshman which has many speculating that he could make a name for himself during his rookie year in the NFL.

Here’s the highlight video of the man in the middle:

Andra Davis was released from the Broncos. I’m truly shocked with that one considering he was third on the team in tackles last year. I guess Josh McDaniels is really putting a lot of stock in his three new signees.

Speaking of the new big guys, I wonder how Justin Bannan, Jarvis Green, and Jamal Williams will handle Denver’s elevation at 5,280 feet above sea level. If I were them, I’d move here immediately to adjust.

The wrong Brandon was signed to a new contract. WR Brandon Lloyd played in the final two games of the regular season and recorded 8 catches, 1 catch for 44 yards. He signed a $2.05 million contract. Shouldn’t we be concentrating on a different Brandon here? All Denver area charities should hit up the Broncos.

The free agent signing period is a week old, and only one team has brought Brandon Marshall in for a visit and no one has offered him anything. Fingers crossed, #15 could be here to stay solely because of his immature actions in the past.

I’m still disappointed that the Broncos didn’t make an attempt to sign Julius Peppers. The Broncos had the cash and the pick up wouldn’t have cost them any draft picks.

It’s interesting that there are no teams knocking on Kyle Orton’s door. Perhaps they want to keep the dead weight in place.

Elvis Dumervil needs a contract like Justin Bannan’s (5 year, $22 million). Enough said.

When will Chris Simms be packing his bags? I hope it’s soon after the draft when the Broncos pick a strong backup QB and potential starter in 2011.
