It was reported today by ESPN‘s Adam Schefter that a trade involving Kyle Orton will not take place and that Orton will be the starting quarterback for the Denver Broncos in 2011.

Schefter said today via Twitter:

“The Denver Broncos are not going to trade Kyle Orton. That’s not going to happen.”

He also said:

“They’re not going to trade Kyle Orton this season. Kyle Orton is going to be the Broncos’ starting quarterback.”

It was reported last week that the Broncos were ready and willing to trade Orton to the Miami Dolphins, but the deal fell apart. Orton has taken first-team snaps all during training camp and has had the best performance of the team’s quarterbacks so far in the practice sessions.

Is this report by Schefter a statement of fact, or is it a clever smokescreen by the Broncos to boost Orton’s trade value? Only time will tell.

According to Adam Schefter, the NFL and NFL Players Association will have an agreement in place by July 21st. This date is important because it coincides with scheduled league meetings in Atlanta, Georgia. If an agreement is in place, the new CBA can be ratified at those meetings.

I am getting tired of the constant reports of the CBA discussions, just like everyone else, but this report seems legitimate. Of course, I am hoping that’s the case so that we can forget about this mess and get on with the season.
