Get your remotes ready. Ok, we may be a couple months ahead of ourselves, but still, this is something that you want a heads up on now.

NFL Films was taping with John Elway earlier today for its ESPN 30 for 30 film on the 1983 draft. The show will air Tuesday, April 23 at 7 p.m. MST.

Elway was taken first overall by the Baltimore Colts in the 1983 draft. This came one summer after he played minor league baseball for the New York Yankees. Elway threatened the Colts that if they didn’t trade him away, he would focus on playing for the Yankees. Eventually, Elway signed a five-year contract with the Denver Broncos for a reported $7 million.

Dan Marino was the last quarterback taken in the first round of the 1983 draft. Todd Blackeledge, Jim Kelly, and Tony Eason were the other quarterbacks selected before Marino. Former Bronco Gary Kubiak was selected in the eighth round of this draft.
