Allen Barbre was acquired by the Denver Broncos via trade with the Philadelphia Eagles to bolster their offensive line and compete with Max Garcia.

Signs pointed to Denver Broncos guard Max Garcia playing left guard. However due to today’s trade with the Philadelphia Eagles, the Broncos appear serious adding competition to the offensive line. Our very own Sayre Bedinger mentioned in a tweet that Allen Babre earned the highest grade of his career last year in the “Brotherly Love” according to Pro Football Focus.

The Broncos traded a 2019 unconditional pick after Eagles decided not release Babre. Garcia, Michael Schofield, Ty Sambrailo, Connor McGovern and Billy Turner are playing for time at guard, but Babre is an interesting name to the fold.

This is not the first time the Broncos have added a former Eagle to their roster. In fact, Evan Mathis (a guard) joined the Broncos as a free agent in 2015. During that season is where Mathis earned his Super Bowl ring.

Time will tell the impact Allen Babre makes on the position, but he is here to push Garcia. Barbre’s incredible versatility makes for another interesting piece on the offensive line. The ex-Eagles’ linemen has played everywhere. Allen Babre spent most of his time at left guard.

That is where Garcia is in a pickle. Garcia has incredible tools and raw strength to be a potential great guard in the “power blocking scheme.” However, Denver has not seen it yet.

Barbre played for five teams before the trade today. The Broncos will be his sixth. Is Barbre the missing piece to solidify the offensive line? Training Camp will give us that answer we hope.

This move could also mean trouble for Michael Schofield. If he does not have a phenomenal camp, he could see his roster bubble popped.
