The Denver Broncos re-signed John Elway to a five-year contract, and Elway said that the Broncos are ‘home’ for him, adding he’s excited about the future…

The Denver Broncos have re-signed John Elway to a five-year contract, according to the team and various media reports. This is an exciting day for Broncos Country and Joe Ellis — the team President and CEO — explained the importance of getting the deal done:

"“We’re pleased to reach an agreement on a five-year contract with John to continue leading our football operations,” Ellis said. “During these last six seasons, John’s clearly established himself as one of the best general managers in all of sports. He’s demonstrated impressive football instincts, a strong business acumen and a consistent ability to build competitive teams.“There’s no doubt John means a great deal to the Broncos, our fans and the entire community. It was important for us to reach this long-term agreement, and we’re all excited to now turn our full attention toward the 2017 season.”All quotes obtained via Broncos PR"

Elway truly has established himself among the best executives in sports. His resumé really speaks for itself, but some of the highlights include assembling the NFL’s highest scoring offense ever (2013 roster) and one of the greatest defensive units in league history (2015).

He’s had his ups and downs as far as the NFL Draft is concerned, but Elway has consistently put together a championship/playoff caliber roster and he reiterated his excitement for the future of this team:

"“I appreciate the trust and confidence that Joe has shown in me,” Elway said. “Pat Bowlen has always put outstanding leadership in place, and I’m grateful for the support Joe gives us to compete for championships each and every year.“This is a special place, and the Broncos are home to me. While there’s still a lot of work to be done, I’m excited about the future of this team and this organization.”"

The Broncos are and have always been home for John Elway. He’s synonymous with not only the franchise but the city of Denver in general. It only made sense for this deal to get done and they got it done with time to spare before the start of training camp.
