Denver Broncos rookie quarterback Chad Kelly sat down with Total Access to answer questions during Mr. Irrelevant Week…

There are a good number of Denver Broncos fans who are very excited about rookie quarterback Chad Kelly. The final pick of the 2017 NFL Draft is out in California for Mr. Irrelevant week, and took some time with the crew at NFL Total Access to talk about his experience of being drafted, and how he’s preparing in case his number gets called…

After a pretty disastrous start to his collegiate career, Kelly rebounded in a big way. He helped East Mississippi Community College to a National Title, and became the starting quarterback at Ole Miss where he was immediately an impact player.

At Ole Miss, Kelly had an incredible season, leading the Rebels to some huge wins including one over Alabama.

He returned to Ole Miss for a senior season despite the fact that he could have been a first or second round pick after his junior year, hoping for a chance to compete for a National Title and Heisman Trophy.

Injuries played a factor, but Kelly seemed to take a step back in his final season at Ole Miss, and he was unable to throw in pre-draft workouts because of a wrist injury. He’d previously been recovering from ACL and meniscus surgery, so his injuries combined with off-field issues and potential distractions caused him to drop nearly out of the draft.

The Broncos scooped him up with the last pick to prevent him from signing elsewhere, and he’s now got the cast off of his wrist and is going to be cleared to throw next week.

He may not figure in to the Broncos’ quarterback competition in 2017, but some feel like he has the ability to be a factor in 2018 depending how the rest of this year goes.
