The Denver Broncos conclude OTAs with their QB battle neck and neck. Will it be Paxton Lynch or Trevor Siemian for the 2017 season?

Now that the Denver Broncos’ new coaching staff has had five months to evaluate the quarterbacks on the roster, where do things stand? Is Paxton Lynch ready to unseat incumbent starter Trevor Siemian?

We’ll get to that in a bit.

Lynch entered last season with a bit of an unfair disadvantage. The Denver Broncos had just won the Super Bowl, and rarely under those circumstances does an NFL team need a new quarterback, much less use a first round pick on a quarterback.

The rare set of circumstances eventually led to the Broncos picking Trevor Siemian to be their starting quarterback, seemingly because he was the only one who had a deep knowledge of Gary Kubiak’s offense. His understanding of the offense presented the least risk in terms of falling out of playoff contention even before the season began.

That advantage no longer exists as both Lynch and Siemian started this offseason on an even playing field as far as knowledge of the new playbook goes. In fact, after OTAs, head coach Vance Joseph said that neither QB has really pulled ahead at this point:

"“Honestly, no, not really,” Joseph said when asked if either player stands out more than the other at this point. “It was more of a learning phase of where we are. Both guys did some good things. Both guys did some off things. It was really equal.” (quotes obtained via Denver Broncos PR)"

I want to take a look at each player and why he may or may not be this year’s starting quarterback from my perspective…
