Should the Denver Broncos Name Derek Wolfe Captain?

With the Denver Broncos losing Demarcus Ware to retirement, is it time for Derek Wolfe to become the next defensive captain for the team?

Derek Wolfe was not all that happy when he believed that he should have “spoke up more” during the 2016 season.

With the departure of Demarcus Ware, he could find himself in a much bigger role in 2017. While the team does not decide on captains until the 53 man roster is set, I believe Derek Wolfe should be considered.

His work since being drafted in 2012 has been quite phenomenal. When it comes to the run game, Derek Wolfe is the main man for the job.

He wants to become more vocal during the 2017 season. He believes that he did not become a leader in that department. I like that he wants to be vocal.

By no means was he the worst player on the defensive side of the ball, but the run defense was a bit off in 2016. The Denver Broncos just could not stop the running game. And that is going to be key in any game.

The Broncos did focus on beefing up the running game, but time will tell if it will improve.

I believe it is great to hear that Derek Wolfe wants to take that next step and become a leader for the Denver Broncos. He has been with the team for quite some time now.

Taking that next step will help not only himself, but the Denver Broncos defense as well. In the last two seasons, the team lost two key leaders in Peyton Manning and Demarcus Ware.
