As the Broncos prepare to return to dominance in 2017, they are expected to pick up the option for Bradley Roby who is a key contributor to the defense…

The Denver Broncos will keep a recurring member of their defensive backfield. Mike Klis of KUSA 9 News reported Tuesday morning that the Broncos are expected to exercise the fifth year option on cornerback Bradley Roby.

The option for Roby’s contract is valued at $8.526 million dollars. Roby’s current contract primes him to make $1.3 million this year.

Roby has certainly earned the right to receive a pay increase. On the field, Roby was the Broncos third cornerback, however the belief is that he could be 30 other teams’ top corner.

Drafted by the Broncos in 2014 with the 31st overall pick, many questioned Roby’s ability to stay out of trouble after several incidents at Ohio State. Roby thrived as one of the Broncos’ most important defenders.

As a rookie he had 65 tackles, 13 pass deflections (league best among rookies) two interceptions and two forced fumbles. In 2015 he accounted for 40 tackles, 10 pass deflections, one interception, and fumble recovery that led to an important touchdown against Kansas City in 2015.

That fumble return for a touchdown won the Broncos the game and was a key game towards securing the top seed in the AFC down the stretch. In the Playoffs in 2015, Roby forced an important fumble that gave the Broncos field position to win against the Steelers.

In Roby’s third season as a Bronco he saw a lot more minutes on the field in vital situations. He was clutch for Denver once again in key moments.

Also, Roby returned two interceptions for touchdowns and blanketed opposing wide receivers on the outside. Heading into his fourth season, the expectations for Roby are high.

Is The Move Worthy?

When analyzing the Broncos defense, the secondary is a pivotal element of the team. Many people believe Aqib Talib has a season or two left in him, which would lead to the Broncos needing to find a corner who will produce.

Bradley Roby is that player. What do you think Broncos Country?

Do you think picking up Roby’s 5th year option is a good move for the Broncos? For what it’s worth, I believe Roby needs to remain a Bronco throughout his career.
