The Denver Broncos are in search of a new left tackle, and Alabama’s Cam Robinson could be the guy. He will reportedly visit the team prior to the draft…

The Denver Broncos are seeking a new left tackle, and they may be targeting someone the 2017 NFL Draft class. That someone could very well be Alabama left tackle Cam Robinson, one of the best left tackles in college football over the last couple of years and someone the Broncos are highly interested in…

Robinson was an instant hit at Alabama, earning Freshman All-American honors in 2014, followed by All-SEC honors in 2015. He was a unanimous All-American in 2016 as he helped pave the way for the Tide as their left tackle and team captain.

This was after Robinson faced weapons and drug charges (with another Alabama teammate) in the Summer of 2016. The Louisiana district attorney decided not to prosecute, and Robinson faced no discipline from the Crimson Tide football program.

Robinson’s long list of hardware is impressive. In addition to the aforementioned All-American and All-Conference honors, he was honored with the Outland Trophy in 2016, given to the nation’s most outstanding lineman. He was also the recipient of the SEC Jacobs Blocking Trophy.

There are some who feel Robinson — 6-6, 310 pounds with 35.5-inch arms — would be a better fit at guard in the NFL. I still have no idea why that would be. Robinson is long and athletic, and a mauler in the running game. He’s got some work to do on pass sets, but the talent is certainly there.

As far as value goes at tackle in this draft, you might not find any better than this guy. He’s 21 years old and was at one point considered a top five prospect for this year’s draft. Some inconsistencies and his off-field issues perhaps contributed to a big drop off, but there’s definitely talent here and high upside.

The Broncos could look to draft Robinson in the first round to be their left tackle of the future. He is a perfect fit for a power scheme, but is athletic to move whenever he needs to.

Some NFL coaching staff is going to get a kid that has all the talent in the world, but they need to make sure he puts his head to the plow and works his tail off to be the best pass protector he can be.
