The Denver Broncos continue their free agency expedition with a reported visit of former Green Bay Packers lineman T.J. Lang on Saturday…

After the left tackle market was basically wiped clean in the first wave of free agency, the Denver Broncos are going to have to get creative. Former Green Bay Packers offensive lineman T.J. Lang is reportedly scheduled to come to town for a visit on Saturday.

This is significant for the Denver Broncos, because they did just sign Ronald Leary to presumably be the team’s left guard moving forward. Lang has played primarily right guard — and excelled — for the Green Bay Packers. However, Lang also has some experience playing tackle in the NFL, and the Broncos might be calling on him to fill their biggest remaining need on the left side of the offensive line…

This would be a very good development for the Broncos, and it’s something we touched on in last night’s live Periscope show, which you can watch here:

Lang’s insertion into the lineup would give the Broncos at least a viable ‘best five’ going into the 2017 NFL Draft. From left to right, assuming Lang would play left tackle, they would have T.J. Lang, Ronald Leary, Matt Paradis, Max Garcia, and one of Michael Schofield, Ty Sambrailo, Donald Stephenson, or a rookie.

The Broncos also have Connor McGovern, who played some tackle in college and is definitely strong/athletic enough to be given a shot at the starting gig at right tackle.

First and foremost, the Broncos will focus on the potential signing of Lang. If he makes it to Denver for his visit (has visited Seattle, visiting Detroit on Friday), there’s a good chance the Broncos will make him an offer. Their plan all along has been to upgrade the offensive and defensive lines in free agency.

Lang is expected to command anywhere between $8-11 million per season. If the Broncos are pitching the left tackle position to him, they may have to pay him ‘tackle’ money instead of guard money. What’s interesting to me is the prospect of signing him to initially play left tackle, and then moving him over to the right side after developing someone in the draft.

Or, if it works out, just leave him at left tackle.

One way or another, the Broncos are going to have to be creative. They don’t have a ton of options left before the draft, and John Elway has stated his desire to not have many needs. Hopefully the Broncos can convince Lang to come to Denver and be part of their line. They desperately need him.
