We continue the Denver Broncos free agency countdown with Sylvester Williams. Should the team let him test free agency or re-sign him?

The Denver Broncos will be looking to improve their run defense in 2017. With Vance Joseph at the helm, he should help the defense improve up front.

Sylvester Williams has been one big question mark since taking over for Terrance Knighton.

In fact, after the Super Bowl winning season, the Broncos declined to exercise Sly’s option. All first round draft picks are given a fifth year option attached to their contract.

It is up to the team to decide if they want to exercise it. John Elway and company did not during the last offseason.

That move alone raised a lot of questions going into the 2016 season if Sylvester Williams was going to stick around after the season.

In fact, Sylvester Williams has been a huge question mark for the longest time.

In 2016, Williams recorded 20 solo tackles and one sack. For a nose tackle, those numbers are not ideal.

2016 was Sly’s big chance to prove himself to the coaching staff and the front office.

With those numbers, he did not do a good enough job. Granted the entire run defense and defensive line was sub-par at best.

If the front office did not exercise his option, it seemed like the writing was already on the wall.

Another factor could be the players set to become free agents. The Denver Broncos have a visit lined up with former Miami Dolphins DT Earl Mitchell for starters.

And with his connections to the Broncos could be a huge reason why he ends up in Denver.

If that does happen, this could be the final blow that will have Sly out of the job in Denver.

With his lack of production and other free agents that are better options, it seems that Sylvester Williams’ time in Denver is drawing to a close.

Such a shame too.
