Denver Broncos: Paxton Lynch Impresses In NFL Debut
By Tylor Walden
When Trevor Siemian injured his non-throwing shoulder in the second quarter against the Buccaneers, the Denver Broncos got a taste of what Paxton Lynch has to offer.
Good Morning Broncos Country. Your Denver Broncos are 4-0 at the quarter mark of the season. Wins over the Panthers, Colts, Bengals, and Buccaneers were all special in their unique way.
Yesterday’s game against Tampa Bay was no different, but the quarterback who started the game did not finish.
While leading 14-7, Broncos quarterback Trevor Siemian took a huge shot to his non-throwing shoulder as he was hit hard by a Buccaneers defender. Seeing him getting carted off to the locker room was not a pretty sight.
Enter Paxton Lynch.

The Denver Broncos’ first round pick this offseason came into the game and actually performed well. He was a bit shaky to start. But hey, even Matt Saracen was not perfect when he came in for Jason Street.
I had to use a Friday Night Lights reference. Ten years ago today, the TV series premiered. But back to Paxton Lynch.
After his first drive, he led the Broncos to points as Brandon McManus kicked a field goal to bring the Broncos to a 17-7 score at the half.
The biggest thing that impressed me in the second half with Paxton Lynch was the first drive of the second half. The Broncos offense went on a 16 play, 69 yard drive that took nearly eight minutes off the clock.
While the drive did end in a Brandon McManus field goal, the fact that nearly eight minutes of game clock was gone gave the defense the rest they needed to dominate the second half. Other than the Bucs second drive of the game, the defense came to dominate.
So, where do the Denver Broncos go from here? Early reports indicate that Trevor Siemian could miss a game or two with a sprained AC joint. Gary Kubiak is taking it day-by-day.
Look ahead to the next two games, the Broncos play the Falcons at home and then have a short week before they travel to San Diego to take on the Chargers on Thursday Night.
I honestly believe that Trevor Siemian should still be the starter. He has brought us this far. But perhaps it would not be such a bad idea to have Paxton Lynch start the next two games until he recovers. It wouldn’t hurt.
What happens after Siemian returns, if he does miss some games, will be interesting to see. But I do know this. There is no quarterback controversy. It is a shame that Trevor Siemian got hurt because of how well he was doing.
But at least with the sample size we got from Paxton Lynch in last night’s game is that we might just be alright.
