The Denver Broncos made a couple of roster moves on Tuesday, adding linebacker Reshard Cliett to the practice squad while replacing rookie Kyle Kragen.

The team also announced they have released tight end Garrett Graham from injured reserve.

Practice squad moves are always fun, because it means something for the Broncos. It’s not that it doesn’t mean something for other teams, but the Broncos have done such a great job at developing talent over the last half-dozen years.

We’ve seen success stories like that of Brandon Marshall, a former practice squad cast-off of the Jacksonville Jaguars who got his start with the Broncos as a member of the practice squad. How about fellow linebacker Zaire Anderson, who spent all of last year on the practice squad before earning a 53-man roster spot this season.

In fact, there’s a habit of success stories at the linebacker position, and obviously, Cliett is a player the Broncos liked in the scouting process that has become available and they want to see him develop.

Cliett is a freak athlete at 6-2, 222 pounds who ran a 4.51 second 40-yard dash at his pro day last offseason. He also had a 38.5-inch vertical jump and 21 bench press reps. At worst, this is a guy that looks like he could develop into a special teams ace, but he is working his way back from a knee injury that put him on injured reserve all of last season with the Houston Texans.

As a former sixth round pick, Cliett is a guy that Houston took a flier on and ultimately decided there wasn’t room enough for him on the active roster.

For the Broncos, this is a move worth monitoring over the course of the next year. The team is deep at linebacker, but a player with this kind of physical talent can’t be ignored.
