Denver Broncos head coach Gary Kubiak is liking the progress he’s seeing from rookie quarterback Paxton Lynch, who has improved each day of practice…

Denver Broncos head coach Gary Kubiak is incredibly patient and generous to give a daily assessment of the quarterback position, and it sounds like things are going really well for rookie Paxton Lynch, who continues to sling the ball around and improve each day.

Broncos quarterbacks are all having varying levels of success, but day five of training camp saw a lowlight for Mark Sanchez when he threw an interception to Lorenzo Doss in the red zone. Kubiak wasn’t overly impressed with Sanchez’s poor throw, but in assessing the overall day of quarterback play, was very complimentary of Lynch.

“I look at today, I thought offensively we were practicing really good. Then we hit these lull periods. Our quarterback put the ball on the ground. [QB] Mark [Sanchez] threw a pick in the redzone; we can’t do that. I think the competition is excellent. I think one of the things for sure, is number 12 [QB Paxton Lynch] is really stepping up. He’s making some progress. I think they are all doing a good job. I would say the young kid has just gotten better each and every day.”

This is by no means shocking. The Broncos drafted Lynch in the first round to play sooner rather than later, and Broncos fans would just as soon see him out there against the Carolina Panthers in early September if at all possible.

The Broncos will continue to get him up to speed, but if he keeps performing at this level, there’s no reason to think that the coaching staff won’t make a bold move and put him in earlier than most expect. Here are some observations from Cameron Parker, who was at practice on Monday:

“The Broncos coaches have seen terrific improvement in Paxton Lynch’s development. Lynch worked with the two and three’s mostly in day five of camp, but dazzled with strong arm and accuracy. There were three plays in Broncos camp where Lynch’s strong arm was in full display. Lynch rolled quickly to his right and fired a cannon throw to Cody Latimer with a defensive back all over the receiver. Second, Lynch made a Brett Favre-like laser between two defenders to tight end Garrett Graham for a touchdown. Lastly, at the end of camp Lynch made a trust throw to early camp wonder, Jordan Taylor who grabbed the ball over the defensive back ending camp on a high note.”

Improved confidence is the first step for the rookie QB. The next step is to get him involved with the first team offense a little more. Perhaps the Broncos will grant him that opportunity in the coming weeks, just to get his feet wet. Maybe we’ll see him there in a preseason contest or two, but I think the Broncos are going to let Mark Sanchez have every opportunity to earn the job before the start of the season.

The problem for Sanchez is, Lynch might just steal it outright.
